Woman Substitutes Curtain Rods For $20 PVC Pipes And The Results Are Great

There’s people that have a gift for remodeling. Take Shelley Detton for example, she’s a mom who moved to a different house and wanted to give herself a nice office to work from home. People like her understand two things:

Not every home improvement project has to break the bank

Reusing material is always a good idea

Using just a few dollars worth of PVC pipe and black spray paint, Shelley turned an office nook into something straight out of a Pier 1 catalog.

But how did she do it, you ask? Well, she used furniture, rugs, and drapes from various parts of her old house, and just regrouped to fit this new space. Take a look at how she managed to pull this off so nicely.

According to the blogger, this is a view of how open the room was before they had the wall added. ‘I know how many people like the modern open concept, but for me this works MUCH better,’ she wrote. ‘I’m not a fan of having things so open that there are no boundaries between various spaces of the home.’

The drapes were reworked from the ones she and her husband had in their old master bedroom. ‘I normally hang my drapes with the rods almost to the ceiling, but since the ceiling in this house is at 9 feet instead of 8, I hung the rods lower than usual.’

One thing she thought was interesting was that the curtain rods are just 1’’ diameter PVC pipe. ‘Yup, true story,’ she wrote. ‘I didn’t want to spend a fortune on these walls, and I wanted the drapes to completely cover the space between the windows.

So what did she do? She painted the pipes black with spray paint that’s especially designed for plastic, and only had to buy 2 unfinished finials for either end of the curtain rods.
